Tonight

Tonight the kids and I made mini boboli pizzas again.

Mickey: Pesto sauce and mozzerella
Greta: No sauce, Mozzerella, greeen olives, pineapple, tomatoes, canned mushrooms
Casey: Pesto sauce, mozzerella, olives, tomatoes and pineapples, with goldfish crackers (!)
Me/Charlie: Pesto, olive, pineapple, mushroom

I used to walk by the Boboli crusts in the grocery store and see the price and have this little flash of thought in my head of "Thats as much as pizza from a place! Screw that!"

But thats not the point at all. The kids LOVE to make their own, LOVE. It takes up a large amount of time, and on Daddy-work-late-night, thats a gooooood thing. They take only six minutes to cook, and they are really, extraordinarily good.

I want to try more sophisticated toppings soon like goat cheese, roasted pear slices, carmelized onions, spinach....actually those four are the exact pizza I want :)

We had water to drink. We made one up for Steve and put it in a big ziploc in the fridge so he can cook it when he gets home. Now we go do some elaborate "FunBath" and boom its bedtime!

No more Thursday night Survivor, so I guess we will clean and maybe listen to some jams. Steve did not ride his bike today, as it is 91 degrees and I did not want the car.

Wednesday dinner

We had Daddy's famous baked egg omelette, hash browns, biscuits, veggie sausage patties and orange juice.

I did not approve these activities yesterday

But I did manage to grab the camera once I discovered them :)

It's Itsy Bitsy Time!

Ok, I gently try and shake this blog-curse and submit some good news, cautiously:

There was a TV show called It's Itsy Bitsy Time on television when Greta was a wee little thing. I could not even tell you what obscure network it was on, maybe discovery kids or some Canadian station. It was a collection of weird canadian-esque, European-ish little cartoons, claymations, puppetry and such. When I say "shorts", some of them were verrry short, like a minute or so. We were hooked!

I have such, such fond memories of living in our little flat, being pregnant with Mickey, and just watching hours and hours and hours of tv without one inkling or iota of "shame" or guilt whatsoever (I didnt know about all that crap yet, I really just hung out with my kid and we enjoyed life together, no shoulda-supposed ta nothing! such bliss!) we ate food and blared the air conditioner and had quilts and blankies and we loved it! It's Itsy bitsy time was just one of those ones where the songs were really really catchy and oftentimes way better than the little weird shows. Greta was 2, and she would get all excited for the songs, and then kind of phase out during the shows...but I was hooked and I think she saw how much I was jamming out to the show that she liked it even more. Did I mention quilts and non stop eating? God it was awesome.

Well somehow it was just poof-off air. I looked it up online and there was nothing to be found. I thought I was crazy! If it wasn't for Steve and Greta remembering it, I would have pretty much believed it all to be a pregnant delusion. but tonight, I found a crazy website that knows ALL SHOWS and it told me this about its itsy bitsy time. Its coming to FOX? I cant believe it! SO cool and so weird...I worry that it will be all different. I don't want new ones.

The other magical and weird and long gone shows we watched back in the day, me and little baby Greta, were Pappyland, Sharon Lois and Bram's Elephant show, and Busytown, a show my the famed illustrator Richard Scarry.

I am cruising around Amazon right now to see who has this crap on video--vhs--whatever. Casey Mickey and Charlie must not be without the weird and wonderful world of canadian/british broadcasting!

The Modern Kitchen of Today

HOLY MOLEY!

We have a dishwasher, one of those funny little kinds that you have to wheel out and hook all up to the sink. We tried it once when we first moved here (last August) and it made terrible noises and sprayed water all over the floor and so we wheeled it back and have been hand-washing ever since.

BUT for some reason tonight Steve tried to re hook it up and IT WORKS

DO I even need to explain how much this rocks? I want an "I heart technology" T-Shirt tonight. But I will settle for an I Heart my Husband one.

just my 2 cents

The old saying goes; Don't let the sun go down on your anger---

Meaning, don't go to bed if you are in a fight with your partner. But I say HOGWASH. For me, the phrase should be something like:

Don't start some giant paintrain "talk" at 11:30 pm when you are exhausted. Instead, hit the hay and it will look alot more reasonable, approachable and in proportion after you are rested.

a little salad

My yummy fresh salad tonight:

Spring mix with herbs (a prepackaged thing, tasted like dill and cilantro were in it for sure)

tomatoes

chick peas

bacon bits

shredded cheese

apples

croutons

Craisins (or dried cherries)

Small, small amount of Roka Blue dressing (Kraft) mixed with Raspberry Walnut Vinaigrette and lightly drizzled over the top
It tasted fancy and colorful and all of it was cheap--even the craisins, less than 2 bucks at walmart.

For TEN NINETY NINE, you get a huge box of deliciousness to feed the gang all day long.

You get 13 bagels, any variety--and two tubs of cream cheese, any variety.

Do you know what it would cost to buy 13 bagels with cream cheese on them outside of this deal? I think bagels with cream cheese are like $2.15--- so $27.95!!

$10.99
It is called a BagelPack. Go get one! My personal fave: Asiago cheese bagel with sun dried tomato cream cheese.

dispose

It is SO about paper plates. And paper bowls. And plastic utensils. And paper towels.

It is 2 in the afternoon and instead of dripping oozing tipping stenching mountain of dishes filling the sink and covering every surface in the kitchen including the stove, there is only a coffee cup, the blender, and 2 sharp knives. Because of the disposables.

It may seem bad for the Earth, but hear me out: How good is it for the planet for me and Steve to stand there from 10-1130 everynight washing dishes until our backs seize up? How much water does that use? How much soap? How much time?

We had a barbecue party here this weekend and so I have lots of leftover disposable stuff. It has made more of a difference than I anticipated. Instead of the hour+ dishathon tonight, I will be free to cut loose and fold laundry ;)

People have absolutely no inkling of what is involved in being home all day living and caring for 4 children. No concept of the cleanup and prepwork in being vaguely presentable as a crew in public. Ahhh to teach in a public school and have the kids only from 8-3, to have a crew of cooks and janitors, lunch breaks, after 3 pm to sit at my "desk" in the quiet and plan things out...all the kids the same grade level, summers off...
haha

But yeah its hard to do all this homemaking. if paper products help me then hallelujah.
