Check this out and tell me what you think!
We are looking into/talking more again lately about simplicity and de-cluttering, but this time I dont mean buying $100 worth of cute containers.

Hmmm...
My hippie-loving side yearns to do this. My modern housewife with an even more modern-minded husband side knows our family couldn't pull it off.
My husband is one of those material guys who thrives on comfort at the exclusion of anything else. I keep him from buying so much, and he reminds me that comfort is okay.
If my husband could/would commit to this, I would love to try. Alas, I know that won't happen. I love the idea of buying LESS new stuff. We already use Freecycle for LOTS of stuff - giving and receiving. I always forget about thrift stores.
The free-market reminds me of the stories my mom tells of the '60s and '70s. She said there were free markets and barter groups but the government didn't like the loss of sales taxes and broke it all up. My parents were members of a barter group until it got infiltrated by the govt. Bummer, huh?
When I was growing up my mom made our clothes and macramed our curtains and grew our veggies and fruit and baked our bread and carob snacks and sewed our dolls and made my brother's cotton diapers, etc. I remember my dad trading some heating and cooling work for some chocolate suckers from a neighbor at Easter time. I have all those romanticized images of childhood and love and peace in my head. Wouldn't it be so cool if we could live like that?
Anyway, this post brought up all kinds of happy images for me - it's too bad the hippie movement got so turned around and sick. We could be living in such a different world right now! As it is, it's so cool to know that there are people who also yearn for a simpler more conscious life and world!
That is definitely an intriguing idea. Hmmmm, food for thought.
I read this post last night, and I've been thinking about it all morning. That really is a good idea, and it might be a fun experiment is we did it for a week, and then a month, and so on. Thanks for bringing this up.
